Surah Al Isra Ayat 15 Translation Tafseer

Para 15 - سُبْحٰنَ الَّذِیْۤ

سورة بنى اسراءيل

بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِیْمِ

17.15

مَنِ اهْتَدٰى فَاِنَّمَا یَهْتَدِیْ لِنَفْسِهٖۚ-وَ مَنْ ضَلَّ فَاِنَّمَا یَضِلُّ عَلَیْهَاؕ-وَ لَا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِّزْرَ اُخْرٰىؕ-وَ مَا كُنَّا مُعَذِّبِیْنَ حَتّٰى نَبْعَثَ رَسُوْلًا(15)

Kanz-ul-Irfan

Whosoever attained guidance, he did so for his own benefit, and whosoever became misguided, did so at his own loss. No soul will bear the burden of another soul—[1]and We do not punish anyone until We have sent a Messenger.

Commentary

The meaning of this verse is that a person will definitely be requited for his guidance and righteous actions; it is not the case that he does a virtuous deed and another will receive its reward, whilst he is deprived of it himself. However, it is possible that he performs a good deed and another will benefit by it, as is the case for gifting reward (īsāl al-thawāb), or ongoing charity, etc. Similarly, the deviance and burden of a person’s sin will only be borne by him; and it is not the case that a person will carry the burden of another’s sin. Nevertheless, as far as his encouraging another to sin or creating a means for it is concerned, then he will incur its sin accordingly.
